The Juneau Police Department has identified the man who died after falling from the Douglas Bridge Tuesday afternoon as 64-year-old Juneau resident Brian Earl Lupro.

According to police, a caller reported they had seen a man standing on the outside railing of the bridge as they drove by around 2:30 p.m. The caller told police they lost sight of him when they stopped to check on him. They then saw his body lying near the tide line below the Douglas Island side of the bridge.

Police say witnesses were the first to reach Lupro and performed CPR until authorities arrived. He was later pronounced dead on the scene.

Lupro’s body will be sent to the Alaska State Medical Examiner’s office for an autopsy.

Capital City Fire/Rescue and Coast Guard Sector Juneau also responded to the scene.

Juneau police said initially they had identified the person but were awaiting notification of family members before they released additional information.
