Red Carpet Concert: String of Lights, ‘Rusted Tracks’

The Anchorage folk band String of Lights came down to Juneau for this year’s Alaska Folk Festival. We caught them for a Red Carpet Concert, performing the song “Rusted Tracks” from their 2016 album, “Migration.” Written by banjo player and vocalist, Heather Stewart, the song features guitarist Arkadi Futerman and cellist Jamie Whiteman of the Tanana Rafters.

Red Carpet Concert: Damn Fantasies and the Could Be Possibilities, ‘Circus’

The Alaska gal trio Damn Fantasies and the Could Be Possibilities came down from Anchorage for this year’s Alaska Folk Festival. We filmed their song “Circus” at KTOO as part of our Red Carpet Concert series. The group is fronted by banjo player and vocalist Kage Free of Anchorage, with accompaniment from Sutton sisters Rachel Overby on upright bass and Alyssa Overby on washboard and percussion.

Red Carpet Concert: Dara Rilatos, ‘Black Curtain’

This is Juneau songwriter and vocalist Dara Rilatos. Though she’s relocated to Wisconsin, we caught her at this year’s Alaska Folk Festival to record her song “Black Curtain.”

Red Carpet Concert: Ryan Bowers and the Brain Trust, ‘Hard to Come Down’

The four-piece Fairbanks band Ryan Bowers and the Brain Trust performed their song “Hard to Come Down,” at KTOO during this year’s Alaska Folk Festival. Co-written by bass player and vocalist Ryan Bowers and Alaska songwriter Emily Anderson, the ensemble featured Alan Bent on resonator guitar, Aurora Bowers on fiddle, and Bryan Strong on acoustic guitar. This year Bowers  released his the debut album ‘Sweet Calamity‘ recorded at 10th Planet Recording Studio in Fairbanks.

Red Carpet Concert: Irene Muller, ‘The Perfect Curve of Everything’

Longtime Juneau songwriter Irene Muller lives in Seattle now, but she dropped into KTOO’s studio during this year’s Alaska Folk Festival to record her original tune, “The Perfect Curve of Everything.”

Red Carpet Concert: The Forest That Never Sleeps, ‘When I Was A Child’

Anchorage multi instrumentalist Kat Moore performs solo as The Forest That Never Sleeps. During this year’s Alaska Folk Festival, she recorded her song  “When I was Child” with bandmate Logan Bean of The Super Saturated Sugar Strings on trumpet.
