On this Thursday’s Juneau Afternoon, meet Alyssa Quintyne, who describes herself as a Bajan – an American with heritage from the Caribbean island of Barbados.

Alyssa Quintyne has been a longtime community organizer in Fairbanks. Her roots in Barbados have given her a unique perspective on reaching out to diverse groups of people.

Quintyne is a community organizer at the Alaska Center in Fairbanks, where it’s a full time job to encourage people, who have been left out of decisions that affect their lives, to get involved.

For Quintyne, community organizing is a constant process of finding ways around obstacles. She says it’s a good thing she’s also an artist, because she takes a creative approach to everything.  https://www.gouachebody.com/

A Sherlock Holmes Radio Mystery presented by the Juneau Ghost Light Theatre and KTOO.In the early days of radio, back when they were housed in heavy wooden cabinets, families would huddle around them and hang on every moment of the dramas that were broadcast — scenes made more powerful because they played out in the mind’s eye.

The Juneau Ghost Light Theatre company is bringing back the magic of radio this week, with a Sherlock Holmes mystery that will air on KTOO this Thursday night.  On Wednesday’s Juneau Afternoon, get a preview of this production. Guests:  Cate Ross, Salissa Thole, and Kelsey Riker.

Monday: Former Lt. Governor Valerie Davidson takes on a new challenge

Valerie Davidson has been tapped as interim president of the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium, following the resignation and death of its previous chairman and president.

It’s not the first time Davidson has had to step into a new job to calm troubled waters. In Gov. Bill Walker’s administration, where she served as commissioner of health and social services, she became Lt. Governor after Byron Mallott’s resignation.  Now she’s back in the healthcare arena in the midst of the pandemic.

On Monday’s Juneau Afternoon, Davidson talks about the challenges ahead for one of state’s largest health providers.
