Juneau Police Department uses virtual reality to train officers in crisis intervention

Many 9-1-1 calls involve a range of mental health issues that police officers haven’t been trained to deal with.

The Juneau Police Department hopes to change that with a new virtual crisis training program.

On Wednesday’s Juneau Afternoon, Deputy Chief Dave Campbell talks about the new virtual reality simulator the department is using to train its officers to respond to mental health calls.

African American spirituals and gospel: Their power to heal

If it weren’t for COVID-19, Juneau would have hosted the 10th Annual Gospel and Choir Workshops. But the next best thing: a conversation on Thursday’s Juneau Afternoon with some of the presenters, who would have been here – Pastor Bobby Lewis of Harlem and Dr. Jaunelle Celaire, a professor of voice at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
