Juneau Afternoon 1/20/12

Today at 3 on A Juneau Afternoon, Pat Moore will host. We’ll hear an excerpt from the upcoming broadcast of the Mudrooms local live storytelling events by Linda Buckley; we’ll learn about the Juneau Shotokan Karate Do Club from Black Belt members Kathy Hocker, Stacey Poulson, and Doug Murray; and we’ll get a preview of tonight’s Fireside Lecture from Harry Tullis, the Lead Wilderness Ranger for the Admiralty National Monument. Two Juneau high school students who worked at the Pack Creek bear viewing facility on Admiralty Island last summer will show slides and movies of their experience at the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center this evening.

Alaska Identity Project 1/19/12

Tune into the Alaska Identity Project on Thursday, January 19, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. to hear host Adrien Lopez talk with Ray Riutta, Executive Director of the Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute (ASMI). From 7:30 – 8:00 PM, Inupiaq Artist Vernon Rexford, born and raised in Barrow, Alaska, will discuss his work with baleen, ivory, and other natural resources from the North Slope, as well as his path to becoming an artist.

Juneau Afternoon 1/19/12

We’ll talk to Jason Caputo and Kari Groven about Friday night’s show of mash-ups; Larry Persily will be here with a preview of his presentation tonight on International Markets for Alaska’s Gas for the Juneau World Affairs Council; Laurie Gardner will give us the rundown on Saturday’s Robbie Burns Night; and Nancy DeCherney will give us the rundown on art happenings in the capital city during Arts Up.

We’ll find out about this weekend’s Juneau Symphony performances with guests, Kyle Pickett and Dr. Noise; we’ll discover the lengths some people will go to for a cup of coffee, with guests, Grady Saunders and Marie Gregovich, from Heritage Coffee; we’ll learn about the Big Brothers/Big Sisters School Mentoring Program with Elementary School Counselors, Leslie Scranton and Tristan Berkey; and we’ll learn about the Rental/Repair Shop at Eaglecrest, with Supervisor Mike Cole.

Juneau Afternoon 1/17/12

Host Pat Moore will talk to Len Kamerling, curator of the film collection of the Museum of the North, about The Drums of Winter, showing Wednesday on 360 North; Barb Angaiak, president of NEA-Alaska, will be here to talk about the state’s largest union; Lisa Egan-Lagerquist will be here to highlight next week’s LunaFest film festival; and we’ll discuss the choice 8th graders will have to make about the high school they’ll be attending with Catherine Milliron of the Juenau School District.
