Alaska Identity Project 1/26/12

Tune into the Alaska Identity Project on Thursday, January 26, 2012 as host Adrien Lopez interviews Larry Johansen (7 – 7:30 PM), author of “XTRATUF: An Alaskan Way of Life,” and soon to be published “Alexander Eighteen: The Story of Eighteen Wilderness Areas in Alaska.” Check out his work here and here.

In the second part of the show (7:30 – 8PM), Adrien will air a pre-recorded interview with Brian P. Schmidt, 2011 Nobel Prize Winner in Physics (and part Alaskan – graduate of Bartlett High School in Anchorage) for providing evidence that the expansion of the universe is accelerating. We’ll find out about upcoming English As A Second Language classes with Heather Parker from the Learning Connection; we’ll observe National Mentoring Month with guests Carlton Smith and Thomas Cramer; Keith Wertheimer will be here to highlight Saturday’s fundraising auction to benefit disabled American Vets; we’ll get a preview of tonight’s Wildlife Wednesday presentation on Nature in Southeast Alaska Native Art, with guest, Jno Didrickson; and we’ll learn about this week at Eaglecrest.

We’ll talk with Elaina Newport, founding member of the Capitol Steps, about their sold-out concert this Thursday night; Keri Dixon and Ati Naseah,from AWARE, will clue us in on the
Girls On The Run program; Steve Henrikson and Bob Banghart from the Alaska State Museum, will give us a preview of the upcoming lecture series; and School District Superintendent, Glenn Gelbrich and Administrative Services Director, David Means will give us the lowdown on the District’s budget.
