The small ferry LeConte is tied up today due to a mechanical problem.

As a result, the Juneau-based ship isn’t sailing its normal Monday route to Gustavus and Hoonah.

Alaska Marine Highway System spokesman Jeremy Woodrow says the problem is with the vessel’s engine-cooling system. He says technicians are on board evaluating and addressing the problem today.

Woodrow says the 235-foot ferry is expected to be repaired in time for its scheduled Tuesday sailing from Juneau to Haines and Skagway.

The LeConte carries up to 225 passengers and 35 cars or trucks.

It also sails to Angoon, Tenakee Springs and Pelican.
