Andy got a chance to interview Brian Wallace during an Excellent Afternoon on July 25th. Brian just made a large donation to the Sealaska Heritage Institute of many of his father’s drawings of totems, photographs, and many other historically significant works from his father’s home and workshop.

A Trip South Update!
Interviewed Kanaan Bausler, one of the crew of A Trip South. They are all doing great — in Ketchikan right now about to cross Dixon Entrance on their way to Prince Rupert, and eventually Tierra Del Fuego! Here’s the interview —

March Flies Swarm Juneau
The flies that seem to be everywhere in Juneau these past 3 weeks are March Flies (Family Bibionidae, Genus Bibio), according to Biologist John Hudson of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s Habitat Restoration division.

The larvae live in rotting wood and the adults are known to swarm. Males have huge compound eyes and the females have small, flat heads. Andy Kline talked to Hudson on Tuesday’s “A Juneau Afternoon” – here’s an excerpt.
