Boomy Loves You!

Boomy! The KXLL Boombox Robot can pick up objects in a rudimentary fashion, make an amazing dirty martini, and plays KXLL – Excellent Radio at an inappropriately loud volume! Boomy loves the radio as much as artificial intelligence allows, and if you try to take it away from him he will exercise his prime directive and eliminate you with his lasers. WE LOVE BOOMY!!

Fire On McGinnis in the Studio

A couple of Fire on McGinnis members, Lazlo and Matt, came by the studio to talk about the remastering of some of their recordings, a wild Czech who made a cartoon of their song about insanity, and their gig tonight at the Rendez. Note Lazlo’s son’s excitement about the interview.

KXLL and the Roller Derby!!

KXLL was the first public radio station to EVER broadcast a live Roller Derby match!!! It was so much fun it is ridiculous. Roller Derby play-by-play man In DeKline teamed up with Money Honey to bring you every Block and Jam of the night!!

It was a close match with the Kilkats coming from behind to take the Raven Lunatics 103-73.

The broadcast was also video live-streamed on the web and played on 360 North Nov. 5 at 8 pm and 11 pm.

Big Check for Cancer Connection!

A check for $3,000, Part of the proceeds from the Battle of the Bands Battle Against Cancer was presented during a live broadcast on KXLL to Nicole Hallingstad of the Juneau Cancer Connection. Also present were (L to R) John Beiler of KTOO, Jeanne Pederson of Capital City Weekly, Melissa Griffiths of the Juneau Empire, John Blasco and Tom Sullivan of event sponsors Alaska Pacific Bank and Andy Kline of KXLL.

KXLL together with the Capital City Weekly and the Juneau Empire threw the event October 15 at the JACC, with help from Alaska Music One and the Alaskan Brewery.  The winning band – out of 8 that competed – was the Electric Scoundrels. The event was conceived to help raise awareness and funds for Cancer Awareness Month and Juneau’s Cancer Connection.
