Today on Juneau Afternoon, Culture Rich Conversations from Juneau’s Black Awareness Association continue their celebration of Women’s History Month by highlighting the women who have impacted their lives! Host Christina Michelle and her guests have a heartfelt conversation about some of the most important and influential women in their lives.

This in-depth conversation highlights the many contributions of women that are oftentimes overlooked by society. Christina Michelle and today’s guests take this opportunity to share a few stories of the most influential women in their lives and shed light on the varied, diverse, and under-recognized experience of being a woman.

Guest Connie St. John is founder and president of No Weapon Productions, which specializes in change your life entertainment TM for film, television, stage productions, and live events. As an award-winning writer/director, she has written and directed over 100 stage and screenplays that have been produced and screened all over the world. Her current project, “We Don’t Do That Here!,” is a musical performed by high school students for middle schoolers, with the goal of ending bullying and completely halting youth suicides due to bullying.

Today on Juneau Afternoon, singer, songwriter, and musical therapist Kyshona (kuh-SHAWN-ah) visited the studio. Hailing from Nashville, she will be performing here in Juneau and in the coming days in other Alaskan communities. Known for her 2020 anthem “Listen,” her work has been called “protest music for a new generation.”

Culture Rich Conversations from Juneau’s Black Awareness Association continue their celebration of Women’s History Month with an exciting game of Black Jeopardy!

Host Natasha Boozer and her guests take their listening audience on a journey of essential moments in Black history, including the lives of key African American women and little-known facts that have shaped American history!

This revolutionary game of Jeopardy with a Black cultural and historical twist shares the Black lived experience of America through the eyes of the women who lived it. Natasha Boozer and her guests take a moment to remember how far America has come with a deep understanding that the work is not yet done.

Host Bostin Christopher talks with former Juneau-ite Ryan Conarro about “Inside Wire: Colorado Prison Radio,” the only statewide prison radio in the United States by and for incarcerated people. The program is celebrating its one-year anniversary this March.

Also, Mason Engel, a documentary filmmaker, was in town recently to talk with Ernestine Hayes for his “Books Across America” project, where he is interviewing 50 authors in 50 states in 50 days!

And Rhonda McBride talks with the Alaska Center for the Book about their “Read Alaska Native” reading challenge. The challenge runs through the end of June.
