Rear Adm. Barrett
After three years as head of the Coast Guard in Alaska, Rear Admiral Thomas Barrett is leaving to take a job as Vice-Commandant of the Coast Guard. This includes three excerpts of an interview that aired over several days in early May before the change of command ceremony and his promotion to vice-admiral. In parts one and two of the interview, Barrett explains how the Coast Guard has changed since September 11th and how his agency has existed with little financial support compared to other services. In part three, Barrett talks about his wife’s volunteerism and the lack of vision he’s seen exhibited by many leaders in Juneau and in Alaska.
