Women of Distinction is the annual banquet held by AWARE, Inc. to honor women in our community whose work has made a major impact on improving the lives of others. This year’s honorees are Kate Wolfe, Jeni Brown, LaRae Jones, and Susan Bell. On today’s show, Saralyn Tabachnick sits down with host Andy Kline to give us a preview of the event and how they plan to celebrate the women they have chosen to receive this title.

Also on today’s show, we’ll hear about this week’s Fireside Chat on the topic of beginner birders. Rainforest Yoga stops by to talk about an upcoming workshop, and Girls on the Run will share details of their upcoming spring season.

Feb. 15, 2023: Juneau Ghost Light Theatre presents “Puffs”; “The Great Leap” opens at Perseverance Theatre; Juneau Police Department updates; UAS Polar Plunge

The highly anticipated production of “Puffs or Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic and Magic” is set to hit the stage this weekend. The performance was first planned to open in February 2020 and delayed three full years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  Today on Juneau Afternoon, guest host Katie Bausler chats with Juneau Ghost Light Theatre about how JGLT worked through the setbacks to finally bring the play to life.

Also, on today’s show, we’ll hear about the new Perseverance Theatre play, “The Great Leap.” Juneau Police Department checks in for an update on their events and activities in February and March, and UAS will tell us about their 25th annual polar plunge.

Feb. 10, 2023: Underground Connection concert series; Mudrooms; Juneau Public Libraries

The Underground Connection Concert Series aims to connect the underground music arts and culture scenes of Alaska with the rest of the world. The concert series continues this weekend with a show at The Crystal Saloon. On Juneau Afternoon today, musicians Eli Wills and Del Gatto share some of their music ahead of Saturday’s performance. Host Andy Kline sits down them and producer Zac Pease to find out more.

Also on the show, Mudrooms is here to preview their upcoming storytelling event on Valentine’s Day, and the Juneau Library stops by to update us on their events for the month of February.

Valentine’s Day is almost here! On this episode of Culture Rich Conversations from Juneau’s Black Awareness Association they are having a conversation with couples that are in long term relationships and discussing Black Love. Host Christina Michelle and her guests will take a deep dive into the true meaning of Black Love as well as the Black Lived Experience of a long lasting relationship.

Feb 3, 2023: Gold Street Music, Juneau Artists Gallery, Juneau Community Foundation, and Aurora Strings

In June of 2022, Aurora Strings had the opportunity to go to New York City and perform on stage at Carnegie Hall. When they came on Juneau Afternoon last May, they were full of anticipation about the event. Today, we’ll get to hear the stories about their experience, as well as an in-studio performance.  Host Andy Kline interviews members of the ensemble as well as their mentors on the show this afternoon.

Also today,  we’ll hear from this month’s featured artist at the Juneau Artists Gallery: Dorolyn Alper. The Juneau Community Foundation joins us to discuss their work with the Juneau Nonprofit Housing Development Council , and Riley Woodford will stop by to share details of this Saturday’s Gold Street Concert.
