Video: Red Carpet Concert with Foghorn Stringband

Finishing up an Alaska tour, the Foghorn Stringband has landed in Juneau for the 44th Annual Alaska Folk Festival. They were scheduled here at KTOO for a studio interview Wednesday, but it was too nice outside.

Instead, the band played this impromptu Red Carpet Concert on the waterfront for KTOO’s arts team.

In one form or another, Foghorn’s been coming to the festival since 2003.

Among other reasons, they love the beauty of Juneau, the friendships they’ve made, and the spontaneous jamming.

This tune is called “Knock Around the Kitchen Until the Cook Comes Home.”

Catch them live Thursday at the Rendezvous.

On Saturday, Sammy Lind (fiddle) and Nadine Landry (bass) will join guest artists Pharis & Jason Romero for a 9:20 p.m. dance at the Juneau Arts & Culture Center.

Watch: Andy Miller Red Carpet Concert

Andy Miller describes himself as a reclusive Juneau songwriter and poet. We got Miller, Nanooks hoodie and all, out of the house recently to play a Red Carpet Concert here at KTOO.

The musician’s songs focus on what he calls heart-felt reflections on modern life in Juneau, and often blur lines between earnest observation and satire. Song titles on his most recent album include “Five Exes in Douglas,” “After the Legislature Leaves” and “Mike Chenault and the Triangle Bar.”

Here is Miller singing “Justin Parish’s Beard.”

Video: Red Carpet Concert with Alex Kotlarsz

Alex Kotlarsz performed for us in the KTOO arts room Thursday as part of our Red Carpet Concert series. Listeners may know Kotlarsz from The Wool Pullers, his solo performances, or as Alex K. and the Unmentionables.

You can catch Alex K. and the Unmentionables live at 10 p.m. Friday at McGivney’s in the valley. Stay tuned for more Red Carpet Concerts as we celebrate New Member Month here at KTOO. Next week we feature Laura Zahasky, Josh Lockhart, Jason Cornish, Sarah Jane Klinger and Jeff Bowman.

Red Carpet Concert: Annie Bartholomew

Remember those Red Carpet Concert videos from folk fest we’ve been releasing over the last couple weeks? Well, it turns out there was one more video. After a cancellation, the production team had an extra slot to fill and our very own Annie Bartholomew happened to have her guitar with her. Here’s a bonus from the session, Annie Bartholomew with her song “Mister Thomas.”

Watch this and other Red Carpet Concerts with The Murphy Beds, Goldwing and more here at KTOO.org.
