"Red Carpet Concert"

For our first Red Carpet Concert from the 2017 Alaska Folk Fest, we present Juneau folk-duo The Quaintrelles. We filmed Cameron Brockett and Taylor Vidic performing their song “Rolling Stone” at the Alaskan Hotel. The two are spending their summer at the Red Onion Saloon in Skagway.

This video was made in collaboration between KTOO Public Media and Justin Smith of Rusty Recordings in Gustavus.

Marian Call and Laura Zahasky dropped into the arts room recently to record a Red Carpet Concert. Here are the tunes “Pie Maker,” “Iceland” and “Rainboots.”

“Pie Maker” is part of Call’s new album called “Standing Stones.” Call will be giving a “first listen” of the recording on Friday, Feb. 24 on KXLL beginning at noon AKST.

“They Don’t Talk Back” is in its second weekend at Perseverance Theatre. The play follows an urban Tlingit teenager who goes to live with his grandparents and cousin in a village in Southeast Alaska. As the play follows the teen’s challenges (among other story lines), it often breaks into songs or monologues–what Juneau-based playwright Frank Henry Kaash Katasse calls interludes.

One of those interludes is a rap by the teen called “Listen.” This recording of it is the latest entry in KTOO Arts’ Red Carpet Concert video series. Here’s Skyler Ray-Benson Davis performing “Listen.”

The latest Celebration Sessions Red Carpet Concert video features Kindeshaun Austin with the Woosh.ji.een Dance Group. Introduced by Lyle James, Austin demonstrates the funk style of dancing called popping to drumming in a studio shared by Rico Worl and Christy NaMee Eriksen, who curated the eight-part series.
