As producer and host of KTOO's Juneau Afternoon, I work to build community by sharing stories about the human spirit.
Outside of KTOO, I tell stories via theatre, film and audio projects.
The international touring award-winning Canadian (Yukon) artist has arrived. This authentic road poet travels North America, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, UK/Ireland, and Scandinavia with eight records behind him, solo or with legendary sideman Jaxon Haldane (famed Winnipeg band D-Rangers), never repeating himself on stage. From Celtic Connections (Glasgow, Scotland) to the National Folk Festival (Canberra, AU), his ability to hold an audience and weave melody while juggling the dark with the light is infectious.
Lovely Colours — It’s a sound you’ll recognize when you hear it. With inspiration from Brit Pop and a heavy helping of today’s Alt-Rock, the band Lovely Colours has been making waves in the Seattle Music scene. With roots in Juneau, they return now for their first-ever shows in Alaska. Friday, July 28, at the Crystal Saloon and then up at the Southeast Alaska State Fair in Haines.
Mercedes Munoz is a ceramic and illustration artist based in Juneau. Inspired by the relationship between function and art, Mercedes creates functional forms for everyday life (mugs, platters, bowls, etc.) and decorates them with playful, colorful illustrations inspired by Alaska as well as the little things in her own life that spark joy.
Mercedes Munoz Summer Collection Release – an upcoming one-day pop-up pottery show at the Rie Munoz Gallery (2101 Jordan Ave., Juneau, AK): Sunday, July 30th. Doors open at 10 am.

Theatre in the Rough’s 32nd season opens this Friday with “She Kills Monsters” by Qui Nguyen. “She Kills Monsters” tells the story of Agnes Evans as she comes to terms with the death of her teenage sister, Tilly. When she finds Tilly’s Dungeons & Dragons notebook, she embarks on an adventure in the imaginary world that was Tilly’s refuge. “She Kills Monsters” is a surprisingly sweet tale of friendship, loss, and acceptance.

AKIMI, the Alaska Independent Musicians’ Initiative, has helped complete a report about the overall Juneau music scene — our artists, our festivals, our teachers and students, our venues — with a comparison to the music ecosystems of two other northern capital cities, Tórshavn in the Faroe Islands and Nuuk in Greenland.
The desire for relevance—and to save his marriage—is ultimately what pushed Peter Cook to leave his beloved Alaska for the prestigious Parker College. Lured by the chance to work with his childhood political idol turned college president, Peter moves his family to Portland, Oregon, to help promote his hero’s fundraising initiative that would eliminate financial status from the college’s admissions process. While plumbing the depths of his conscience for the conviction to do the right thing, Peter’s untreated childhood trauma resurfaces, threatening to cloud his perception when it needs to be at its sharpest. Peter must stabilize his mental health while also trying to parse competing versions of “the truth” as law enforcement investigates the criminal conspiracy.
