  • The 10th annual free “How to Run for Local Office” workshop
    • If you think you might run for office – or might work for someone who is – this annual FREE Workshop on “How to Run for Local Office” will provide you with everything you need to know about running for an Assembly or School Board seat or serving on a CBJ Board or Commission. Hearing directly from others in the community, assembly and school board members, and others is the best way to get involved.
    • The workshop will be held on Saturday, June 24, in CBJ Assembly Chambers. The session runs from 8:45 am – 1:30 pm. Pre-registration is recommended and required if you want a hard copy of the handouts. Register online at: https://tinyurl.com/2p95d7f6

  • Lynn Canal Adventures’ running camps happening in June/July
    • The inaugural adult camp is guided by the same counselors inspiring our youth camps, yet designed for adults of all abilities who love to run. Whether you run 5 or 15-minute miles, this camp isn’t about how fast you run, but rather a dedication to self-improvement alongside others doing the same.

  • A preview of the Juneau Piano Series – Paul Krejci will perform on June 9 at 7 pm, at the JACC
    • Dr. Paul Krejci is an independent scholar, piano teacher, and musician. Born and raised in Fairbanks, he studied classical piano with Dr. James Johnson and Karen Johnson. Paul has performed as a solo and collaborative pianist and keyboardist throughout Alaska and in Italy, Austria, Japan, China, and Australia.

  • Juneau Ghost Light Theatre presents “A Night at the Tonys: A Musical Revue” Saturday, June 10
    • Host, Kelsey Riker, will guide you through the ultimate revue performed by a stellar cast of Juneau talent and accompaniment by Luke Weld. Plus, in honor of Pride month, there will be highlights of the rich queer history of the stage.

  • Chef’s Halo Halo Talk with Tasha Elizarde
  • SEAGLA and Juneau’s upcoming Pride Week events as part of Pride Month
    • SEAGLA’s Pride Week is June 9-18
    • Pride Month is the entire month of June, and there are events all over Juneau all month long, including LGBTQ film screenings at Gold Town Nickelodeon most days of the month, and a weekly Pride Hike on various trails around town.
  • KTOO’s Yvonne Krumrey’s interview with the Polynesian Voyaging Society on the Moananuiākea
    • A four-year voyage across the world starts in Juneau this month. The Polynesian Voyaging Society will take the Hōkūle‘a — a twin-hulled, wind-powered canoe carved 50 years ago and has embarked on 14 voyages since — over 40,000 miles around the globe. The journey is called Moananuiākea, and the crew’s goal is to learn about land stewardship and unity from Indigenous communities throughout the Pacific Ocean.
    • The Hōkūle‘a returns to Juneau from Yakutat on Saturday, June 10, and sets off on its long voyage on Thursday, June 15. The arrival will air live on KTOO 360TV starting at 3 p.m on Saturday and the departure will be broadcast at 2 pm. on Thursday.
    • Thompson says there will be chances to tour the Hōkūle‘a while it’s in town. He says the canoe gets stronger when more and more people put their hands on it.

  • Juneau Symphony “Showdowns” Featuring Taylor Vidic
    • Featuring a Broadway favorite, “She Used to Be Mine” from Waitress, and a debut performance of Taylor Vidic’s original song “Cat and Mouse.” This performance also includes epic faceoffs from stage, screen, and history from Lord of the Rings, West Side Story, Batman, Star Trek, Superman, and more!
  • Sentinel Island Lighthouse Cruise and Keeper’s Picnic
    • A cruise to historic Sentinel Island Lighthouse, where one will learn about the history of Alaska Lighthouses, view recent preservation work, explore the island flora, and feast on Renee’s famous picnic lunch of ribs, prawns, corn, potatoes, etc.
  • Augmented Reality Tour of Treadwell Historic Trail
    • An augmented reality walking tour of the Treadwell Historic Trail. Escorted by a guide and spoken narrative that tells the story of the mine and town from 1880-1917, visitors will encounter 11 augmented reality “stories” that show the full size and scale of life in the Treadwell community. There is a 500′ model of the original wharf, a 198′ exact replica of the City of Topeka steamship (known to visit Treadwell around the turn of the century), and multiple opportunities to interact with historically accurate turn-of-the-century mining equipment.
  • Juneau Public Library – Zetta Elliott
    • Author, educator, playwright, and poet Zetta Elliott will visit Juneau during the first week in June as part of the library’s Summer Reading Program. Zetta writes for all ages, including chapter books, poetry, picture books, and young adult novels. She’ll be giving an author talk at the Mendenhall Valley Public Library at 6:30 p.m. on June 6.

    • Learn to recognize tracks of mammals, birds, reptiles, and invertebrates on your landscape, and to interpret animal movement and behavior. This explorative practice reveals a hidden world of wildlife signs and develops the ability to find subtle evidence of animal presence.
  • Southeast Alaska Food Bank Update
    • The food bank is currently pushing out 50,000 pounds of food per month. They may not be able to meet the needs of their member organizations. They are also building a new warehouse and are currently at about half of what they need for funding to make it happen.
  • Cancer Connection’s National Cancer Survivors Day Celebration of Life Walk
    • Cancer Connection’s National Cancer Survivors Day Celebration of Life Walk is 11:00 AM, Sunday, June 4, beginning at Marine Park and ending at the Whale – Mayor Bill Overstreet Park.
