It was the first year of a paid apprentice program in Juneau and it’s helping the agency fill a staffing shortage.

Supporters successfully gathered enough signatures for a 1% seasonal sales tax question to appear on Juneau’s local election ballot this fall.

A Juneau artist created a magazine for Indigenous writers and creators to share their art and perspectives without having to reduce or simplify them to fit into the bounds of traditional media run by non-Native people.

The port project will need approval from the city’s planning commission to move forward, which requires public comment before a vote. Juneau’s city manager said it’s hard to say how long that process will take.

The program identifies local organizations and business youth can turn to for help, and an employee will connect them with crisis management services.

According to the Juneau Police Department, there was only one vehicle involved in the crash.
