Juneau Afternoon 11/1/11

Pat Moore will host. He’ll talk with Scott Carlee, Curator of the State Museum, about his recent Museums Alaska award and four openings which will take place at the State Museum this Friday, November 4; we’ll learn about Hospice, the law, and end of life issues with guests, Vance Sanders, Hal Geiger, and Judith Morley; Hal will comment on a recent book written in Juneau, When You’re Not Here. Dave McKenna, JDHS Head Hockey Coach, will be here to spotlight the season which starts Friday night against Delta Junction; and we’ll find out about the school district’s energy conservation program, with guest, Adrianne Schwartz, the Juneau School District’s Energy Education Specialist.

We’ll get the details on tonight’s Evening at Egan presentation, Widespread Changes to Alaska’s Glaciers, with guest Shad O’Neel; we’ll get a preview of tonight’s concert by Sweet Plantain; George Cuhar & Bridget Cross will highlight tonight’s movie presentation at the Downtown Library; and we’ll find out about the Girl Scout’s Haunted House at the Mendenhall Mall from members of Troop 4029.

Alaska Identity Project 10/27/11

 In the first part of the show, 7:00-7:30 PM, host Adrien Lopez will bring back Deb Spencer (had technical difficulties last time) owner of Cross Sound Seafoodsand Scow Girls, an all female floating fish operation near Pelican, Alaska. The scow was originally built by the late John Clauson and later acquired by Deb Spencer & Keith Heller. For pictures from this past summer’s fishing season, click here

7:30 – 8:00 PM: “Spawn Till You Die” – One of Ray Troll’s most famous sayings. This well-known Alaskan artist will be on the show from 7:30 – 8:00 PM talking about the Fin Art of Ray Troll and his impact on Alaska, his latest exhibits in the Lower 48, the music he makes with his band called The Ratfish Wranglers, and why Troll Global Industries are redefining the cosmos. We’ll find out about the Fun Fall Fest at the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center this Saturday, with guests Jane Terry, Irene Morris and Nikki Hinds; Kyle Pickett will be here to talk about the Juneau Symphony’s production this weekend of Sweeney Todd; We’ll talk to Alexander Dolitsky about his new book, Living Wisdom of the Far North; and Nancy DeCherney will be here with news and views about local cultural activities during Arts Up.
