About 200 people gathered outside the Juneau offices of Sens. Lisa Murkowski and Dan Sullivan. They called for more gun control legislation, stricter background checks for those buying guns and for legislators to stop accepting money from the NRA.

In Marshall, Alaska, residents protect each other in a village without police
Earlier this month, the village of Marshall pushed Gov. Bill Walker to issue an emergency declaration in their community due to the region’s lack of public safety. For most of the past two decades, Marshall has been without police. Now residents are working out ways to defend their community on their own.

A $2.5 million expansion of Bartlett Regional Hospital would go toward a 4,000-square-foot addition to house the Rainforest Recovery Center. It would take pressure off of the emergency room.
Juneau Assembly punts decision over future of Cornerstone Campus property
Juneau Assembly said it recognizes there’s an acute need for both childcare and assisted living facilities in the community. Unable to decide, it’s narrowed the choice down to two for-profit operators that are expected to re-pitch their proposals.
